Award: Dutch Picture Book of the Year - 2024
My book ‘Help! Een Verrassing! (Help! A Surprise!) was chosen as Picture book of the Year 2024 in the Netherlands.
During the Dutch National Read-Aloud Days, the two organizations, CPNB Foundation and the Dutch Reading Foundation, work together to promote reading, reading aloud, and visiting libraries more often.
The Read-Aloud campaign took place in early 2024 and lasted 10 days. On the first day, my book was placed in the spotlight and read aloud in schools, libraries, and bookstores. I joined the event too, reading my book aloud at a primary school in my hometown, Apeldoorn.
There were a lot of extras happening around my book as well. For the event, they created a little plush finger doll of August the Fox, one of the main characters in my book. They also sold a mini edition of my book, which was available in bookstores for a low price.
That way, the book was accessible to more people.
Promoting my book even more, an official song was composed with a video to boot. I asked if my friend Dé Sebastiaan could do it, as he's a composer of songs for kids in his spare time. Long story short: he wrote and performed a song, and I helped him record the video.
